Gecko Feeding
Crested Geckos
A Crested Geckos diet should primarily consist of a wet crested diet, crickets and small amounts of mealworms or waxworms. Live crickets and mealworms should never be larger than the distance between the Crested Geckos eyes. Crickets need to be dusted with a calcium supplement until they are slightly white in color, and mealworms need to be supplemented with a multivitamin. Crested Geckos need to be fed once daily, mid-afternoon to evening, since they are nocturnal.
Juvenile Crested geckos will be fed small mealworms, 3/8” crickets, and a small amount of a wet Crested Gecko diet (about a 1/4 teaspoon). During feeding, make sure any remaining food is removed before adding new food. If feces are present in the food bowls be sure to clean and sanitize before feeding. For each Crested Gecko in the enclosure place 3-4 small mealworms that have been dusted with a multivitamin, 3-4 calcium dusted crickets, and a Crested Gecko wet diet that should increase 1/4 teaspoon per Crested Gecko in the enclosure.
For large juvenile and sub-adult Crested Geckos, the feeding procedure is the same as for the babies except larger food is needed. Increase cricket size to 1/2” for larger juveniles and 3/4” for sub-adults. Mealworm sizes can be increased to medium for both larger juveniles and sub-adult Crested Geckos. Also, the amount of wet food can be increased to a 1/2 teaspoon per Crested Gecko in the enclosure.
Leopard Geckos
A Leopard Gecko's diet should primarily consist of mealworms and crickets. Food must never be larger than the distance between the Leopard Geckos eyes. Crickets should be dusted with a calcium supplement until they are slightly white in color, and mealworms need to be supplemented with a multi-vitamin. Leopard Geckos need to be fed once daily mid-afternoon to evening since they are nocturnal.
Juvenile Leopard Geckos will be fed small mealworms, 3/8” crickets, and should also have some sort of calcium supplement in a bowl to lick from. During feeding make sure any remaining food is removed before adding new food. If feces are present in the food bowls be sure to clean and sanitize before feeding. For each Leopard Gecko in the enclosure place 3-4 small mealworms that have been dusted with a multivitamin, also feed 3-4 calcium dusted crickets per Leopard Gecko in the enclosure.
For large juvenile and sub-adult Leopard Geckos, the feeding procedure is the same as for the babies except larger food is needed. Increase cricket size to 1/2” for larger juveniles and 3/4” for sub-adults. Mealworm sizes can be increased to medium for both large juveniles and sub-adult Leopard Geckos. Increase the number of mealworms fed to sub-adults to 5-6 per Leopard Gecko.
